Fundraising Letter from the NRCC
This week I received a mailer from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) thanks in large part, I believe, to my communications to Senator George Voinovich.
The NRCC letter contained a survey that was quite interesting. Many of the questions fed on fears spread by talk radio and others just seemed outright manipulative. I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see these coming from a group like the NRCC.
Here’s a few:
Do voters in Ohio’s 1st District agree with the Nancy Pelosi Democrat Majority’s decision to impose massive tax hikes on the American people?
The trouble is, the Democrats don’t stand for massive tax hikes. This is a finely spun “straw man” argument. Democrats are running on a platform of “we should pay for what we spend.” And yes, this may involve tax hikes. But it would most likely involve not renewing President Bush’s tax cuts geared at the wealthiest Americans.
Do you support the House Democrats’ “slow bleed” strategy to “choke-off” funding for our troops in Iraq, leading to their withdrawal and a perception of American defeat?
The wording here is designed to invoke “defeat.” The writers are working hard to give you only two choices: victory (Republicans) or defeat (Democrats).
Do you support Congressional Republicans’ efforts to decrease domestic government spending in order to reduce the national debt?
Problem: Domestic government spending is not why our national debt is at record highs. It’s the cost of the war and deficit spending.
Do you think that House Republicans should continue to push for pro-growth policies that create jobs and oppose tax increases that would add a burden to working families and set back our economy?
Here again, the survey tells you what you should think. The survey assumes that pro-growth policies create jobs and tax increases will set back our economy. Have these so-called “pro growth” Republican strategies been working? Or have they been responsible for the housing and current credit crisis?
Do you agree that winning back a Republican Majority in the House of Representatives is essential to stopping the Nancy Pelosi Democrats from raising our taxes, destroying our economy and endangering our homeland?
Message: Republicans good. Democrats bad.
Seems like the NRCC might be having trouble raising money. Time to ratchet up the anger and manipulative tactics of talk radio.
The Republican Party should take note. The party risks self-destruction when reality catches up to spin. You can only blame Democrats for so long before people realize that a Republican President has been leading this country for 8 years.
