Fundraising Letter from the NRCC

March 15, 2008 at 8:44 pm

This week I received a mailer from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) thanks in large part, I believe, to my communications to Senator George Voinovich. The NRCC letter contained a survey that was quite interesting. Many of the questions fed on fears spread by talk radio and others just […]

What Do Democrats Want When They Say “Experience”?

March 9, 2008 at 6:31 pm

Hillary Clinton claims that we should hire the person with the most experience to be President. It’s an interesting argument, but what is really going on here? There are two ways you could look at the term “experience” when it comes to this race: Political experience Experience fighting Republicans Most […]

Military Means Alone Will Not Solve the Problem

February 28, 2008 at 2:56 am

Defense Secretary Robert Gates delivered a message to Turkish leaders today that military means alone will not solve the problem of PKK resistance fighters in Northern Iraq. Does this mean that the Bush administration has finally recognized that military means alone will not be enough to win in Iraq? If […]

Hillary Clinton – The Best Way to Energize the Base

February 2, 2008 at 2:46 am

Republicans have struggled this election season to “energize the base”. First, they trotted out Rudy Giuliani in drag and the base screamed “too East Coast.” Christian Conservatives didn’t think much of John McCain either remembering his comments from the 2000 race. Then Mitt Romney appeared to have the lead only […]

Is Politics the Answer? Thoughts on David Kuo’s “Tempting Faith”

January 19, 2008 at 3:39 pm

I just finished David Kuo’s Tempting Faith, a book that in all honesty I have to admit I purchased because of his insider’s view of Bush’s “compassionate conservatism.” As advertised and promoted, Kuo featured some great quotes and examples of how the administration dismissively treated evangelicals and faith-based initiatives once […]

GOP to Christians: We Want Your Votes, Not Your Values Part II

December 26, 2007 at 3:22 pm

While researching the Huckabee coverage, I thought I remembered seeing a brief blurb in the news a while back in which a senior Whitehouse official called the evangelical Christians nutjobs. Digging further, I found out that David Kuo, a former Bush speech-writer, wrote about this in his book Tempting Faith. […]

GOP to Christians: We Want Your Votes, Not Your Values

December 23, 2007 at 4:14 pm

The Republican race for President has certainly taken an interesting turn recently. As Rudy Guiliani’s campaign sinks faster than the Titanic or the “Straight Talk Express,” Mike Huckabee is now the GOP front runner. Yet many stalwarts of the Republican right have come out against Huckabee. Ann Coulter recently said […]

Dear Democrats: Here’s How to Fight in the Budget Fight

December 13, 2007 at 1:27 am

Today, the inevitable happened. Congress caved in to virtually all of President Bush’s budget requests. Previously, I warned that the Democrats had painted themselves into a corner because they only see two alternatives: fund the war or cut funding altogether. And they’re afraid to cut funding for the war because […]

MOTWA: Barack Obama

December 10, 2007 at 12:42 am

The big winner of this week’s Message of the Week Award is Barack Obama and not just because Oprah Winfrey endorsed him. Obama wins because he found an answer to the experience question that rings true with Americans: it’s not about experience, it’s about judgment. Since summer, Obama has been […]

Supreme Excellence in Warfare

November 24, 2007 at 3:03 pm

One of the greatest ironies of the Bush administration is that the worse the President performs, the more people think that they need a “strong leader” like him.

For example, Bush invades Iraq on trumped up charges, destabilizes the Middle East, creates more terrorists than ever before, and convinces people we need a strong leader to solve these problems. Of course, few mention that Republicans are responsible for these problems in the first place.
