Auditioning for CEO of America

Whichever Democrat wins the nomination should make a pitch to become America’s next CEO.

A CEO that is:

  • A leader
  • Fiscally responsible
  • Capable of working with the best and brightest
  • Willing to push for major change

The CEO positioning is currently up for grabs because Republicans seem to have abandoned this tactic. I’m guessing this is because if George Bush were characterized as a CEO, he would look more like the CEO of Enron than of Exxon.

Republicans have instead tried to narrow the position of President to that of Commander in Chief in order to play to McCain’s strengths. Positioning the Democratic candidate as the best CEO for the country would expand the definition of the President to include the economy and issues Republicans want to avoid.

The other benefit of claiming the CEO territory is that the business world is typically viewed as Republican. Democrats should not be afraid to audition for CEO of America. Currently, it’s a position that is wide open.
